| How Body uses Energy
The daily requirement of calories needed by each person varies. It depends on age, body weight, gender, activity level and health state. There are three primary components that make up body's energy expenditure:
|
| Basal metabolic rate: 60%
Energy expended during physical activity:30%
Thermic effect of food: 10%
|
| Calculate your daily caloric need
Rule of Ten equation: |
Daily required calories = Weight(in pounds) x [10(woman)or11(man)] x activity level x 1.1 |
Activity level: Sedentary = 1.2; Light activity level = 1.3 ; Middle activity level = 1.4 ; Very active =1.5
*People who are ill or may have special clinical conditions should refer to your doctor or dietitian for the appropriate amount of calories to be consumed. |
